Mission
AUA's mission is to empower people living with HIV/AIDS, particularly those receiving ART, to understand their illness, treatment and right to quality care; and to confront the challenges in their lives.
About AUA
AUA is a non-profit association comprised of a group of people living with HIV/AIDS using Anti-Retroviral Treatment. AUA was founded in January 2002 with the cooperation of Medecins Sans Frontieres France and registered with Ministry of Interior in December 2003. AUA currently facilitates many activities in the Khmer-Soviet Hospital Phnom Penh and the Kampong Cham Referral Hospital, as well as coordinating a network of PLHIV across Cambodia.
Purpose
- Assist PLHIV on ART to understand the importance of accessing health services and adhering to treatment.
- Create communication and feedback mechanisms between PLHIV, NGO and government health sector in order to encourage the exchange of experience, problem solving and maintenance of quality health care
Activities 1
- Group discussions and counseling related to HIV/AIDS health care, positive prevention and the proper use of ARVs.
- Counselling and access to social workers for PLHIV receiving treatment in the hospital.
- Monthly meetings for PLHIV from different treatment centres to discuss care, services and exchange experiences.
Activities 2
- Study tours to regional health centres to assess quality of care, patient knowledge and access to services.
- Participation in national and international events to promote the rights and build on the knowledge of PLHIV in Cambodia.
- Networking with NGOs and government to promote quality health care
